Former Wales international rugby player Gareth Thomas has revealed he was the victim of a homophobic attack in Cardiff city centre earlier this week.

Thomas, who became the first professional rugby union player to come out as gay in 2009, posted this video message on Twitter with cuts, bruises and swelling around the left side of his face and head.

As a rugby fan I have always admired Gareth as a fine player. But over time I’ve have grown to admire him as a man for his courage, emotional intelligence and leadership.
